National Taiwan University Hospital Constructs Cancer Center

National Taiwan University Hospital is building a 500-bed comprehensive cancer center in Taipei. Providing 15 floors above ground and four below, the 1.3 million-sf hospital will house surgical suites, clinical offices, inpatient rooms, a preventative medicine center, and biomedical and stem cell research labs. Designed by HKS with J.J. Pan and Partners as architect of record, the facility will offer proton therapy, cell therapy, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Occupancy is expected in 2018.

National University of Ireland Opens Clinical and Translational Research Facility

The National University of Ireland celebrated the opening of a $22 million biomedical research facility at University Hospital Galway in late September of 2015. Housing the Lamb Institute for Translational Research and the Health Research Board's Clinical Research Facility, the five-story, 57,500-gsf project features open, flexible laboratories designed to promote interaction and collaboration. Fakeeh Academic Medical Centre Plans Dubai Campus

Fakeeh Academic Medical Center has awarded Habtoor Leighton Group a $127 million contract to construct the first phase of its teaching hospital campus in Dubai. The facility will accommodate five centers of excellence in the areas of cardiology, pulmonary medicine, orthopedics, endocrinology and diabetes, and emergency medicine. The 150-bed integrated hospital will feature an automated medication dispensing system and robotic surgery technologies. Completion is expected in October of 2017.

OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center Builds Rockford Pavilion

OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center is building an $85 million addition to its campus in Rockford, Ill. Providing 78 private inpatient rooms, the four-story, 144,247-sf pavilion will physically connect to the existing hospital where semi-private rooms will be renovated, creating a total of 190 private rooms. General contractor Ringland-Johnson Construction broke ground on the facility in June of 2015 and completion is expected in early 2018.

Trinity Health Plans Mercy Hospital Renovation

Trinity Health is planning a $271 million renovation and expansion of Mercy Hospital in Muskegon, Mich. The project includes construction of a new tower and consolidation of existing departments including obstetrics, behavioral health, and emergency services at the Mercy campus. The completed hospital will support the delivery of integrated patient care in a facility designed as a model of modern healthcare operations.

University of Chicago Medicine Breaks Ground on Center for Advanced Care at Orland Park

University of Chicago Medicine broke ground in October of 2015 on the $61 million Center for Advanced Care at Orland Park. The four-story, 108,000-sf ambulatory healthcare facility will provide 80 exam rooms and will offer cardiology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, pediatrics, women’s health, and radiation oncology services. The general contractor for the project is Bowa Construction. Occupancy is expected in 2016.

University of Kansas Hospital Builds Cambridge North Tower

University of Kansas Hospital is building the $370 million Cambridge North Tower in Kansas City. The 13-story, 558,570-sf facility will provide 124 inpatient rooms, as well as accommodating 11 surgical suites, imaging, and clinical space for medical specialties. Construction began on the tower in March of 2015 and occupancy of the first phase is expected in early 2018.

College of St. Scholastica Breaks Ground on Health Science Pavilion

The College of St. Scholastica broke ground on the 45,000-sf Health Science Pavilion in August of 2015 in Duluth, Minn. Located on a three-acre site in the BlueStone business park, the $17.1 million project will provide labs and classrooms for occupational therapy, physical therapy, and physician assistant programs. The pavilion was designed by HGA of Minneapolis and will feature an interdisciplinary health clinic to support experiential learning. The general contractor is McGough Construction of St. Paul.

Texas Children's Constructs The Woodlands Pediatric Hospital

Texas Childrens' Hospital is building a $360 million pediatric health center in The Woodlands, Texas. The 548,000-sf facility will provide 74 outpatient rooms, 30 acute care beds, a 24-room emergency center, five radiology rooms, and four surgical suites. The hospital's flexible design will allow the project to open with 30 acute care beds, with the option of housing up to 200 additional beds in the future. Occupancy is expected in 2017.

Baylor Scott & White opened its Marble Falls Medical Center in August of 2015. The 188,000-sf acute care hospital will provide primary care, general surgery, and a comprehensive array of medical specialties. The 46-bed medical center houses an eight-bed intensive care unit, two operating suites, and a birthing center. The project was designed for ease of expansion to enable the build-out of two additional operating suites, four ICU beds, and 30 medical-surgical beds at a later date.

Located on the campus of Riverside Methodist Hospital, the 10-story, 409,000-sf tower provides 224 private inpatient rooms, 11 procedure rooms, and a radiation therapy suite. Clinical space supports a dynamic collaboration between the disciplines of neuroscience, heart and vascular care, and oncology.

The University of Missouri School of Medicine broke ground in July of 2015 on the $42.5 Patient-Centered Care Learning Center in Columbia. The 97,000-sf facility will provide simulation training suites, an anatomy learning center, an auditorium, classrooms, offices, conference rooms, and 30,400 sf of Patient-Based Learning (PBL) labs. The project is designed by BNIM of Kansas City and is being built by J.E. Dunn Construction Group. Occupancy is expected in 2017.
