Indiana University South Bend Renovates Biology Labs
Indiana University South Bend will renovate existing research space in Northside Hall to create the Integrative Biology Research Facility. The $773,000 project will provide a greenhouse and labs for general research, microscopy, molecular biology, microbial culture, and data analysis. The existing greenhouse will expand from 700 sf to 1,460 sf and 1,550 sf of lab space will be renovated. The project is supported by $604 million in federal stimulus funding. Construction will begin in spring of 2011.
Southeast Alabama Medical Center Plans Osteopathy College
Southeast Alabama Medical Center will begin construction in 2011 on the $40 million Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dothan. Occupancy is expected in fall of 2012. The construction cost of the project is $25 million.
ContraFect Plans Yonkers R&D Headquarters
ContraFect will begin construction in early 2011 on a 15,000-sf headquarters and R&D facility in Yonkers, N.Y. The project will provide biotechnology research laboratories for the creation of advanced therapies from monoclonal antibodies and lysins. A second phase of construction could include 45,000 sf of research space and a pilot plant.
International Center for Aviation Excellence Plans R&D Complex
The International Center for Aviation Excellence is planning to create a research and development complex in Hamilton Township, N.J. The project will be developed on the former Atlantic City Race Course site. A conceptual plan for the project was created by Environetics, LWDMR Architects, and SOSH Architects. The 400,000-sf facility will include a 250-room hotel, offices, and research space.
UC Davis Attains LEED Platinum for Teaching Winery
The University of California Davis was awarded LEED Platinum sustainable design certification for its $20 million winery, brewery, and food-processing facility in December of 2010. Located within the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science, the 34,000-sf complex provides teaching and research space for the Department of Food Science and Technology and the Department of Viticulture and Enology. Sustainable design elements include advanced rainwater harvesting and carbon dioxide capture systems for wine fermentations.
