Southeast Georgia Health System Plans Brunswick Orthopedic and Spine Center
Southeast Georgia Health System began construction in January of 2011 on a $10.9 million orthopedic and spine center in Brunswick. Housing 31 private rooms, the facility will provide facilities for orthopedic care, sports medicine, and joint replacement surgery. The center will be located in the existing St. Simons hospital tower, which will be renovated to house updated HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
St. Mary's Hospital Builds Ironton Medical Campus
St. Mary's Hospital will begin construction in spring of 2011 on its $18 million Ironton Medical Campus in Ohio. The two-story, 46,000-sf building will house an emergency department, physician offices, laboratory services, and diagnostic imaging. The general contractor for the project is R.W. Setterlin of Columbus. Occupancy is expected in January of 2012.
Temple University Initiates $1.2 Billion Redevelopment
Temple University is initiating a 10-year, $1.2 billion plan to redevelop its Philadelphia campus. The project includes construction of a library, a 1,500-bed dormitory, academic buildings, and athletic facilities.
Marine Biological Laboratory Attains LEED Gold for Loeb Lab
The Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole was awarded LEED Gold sustainable design certification in January of 2011 for the $25 million renovation of Loeb Laboratory. The 66,000-sf facility features advanced buildings systems and technologies to reduce energy and water consumption. The Loeb Laboratory houses life sciences education, training, and research space. The project was funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center.
Institute for Laboratory Animal Research Publishes Final Version of 8th Edition of Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals
The Institute for Laboratory Animal Research (ILAR) announced the publication of the final version of the 8th Edition of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals in January of 2011. The new edition integrates recently published data, scientific principles, and expert opinion to recommend practices for responsible laboratory animal use. The guide can be purchased at the National Academy Press.
