Broughton Hospital Builds Morgantown Replacement Facility

Broughton Hospital will break ground in spring of 2011 on a $154 million replacement facility in Morgantown, N.C. The 382-bed, 430,000-sf psychiatric hospital is slated for completion in fall of 2013. The general contractor for the project is Rodgers Builders of Charlotte.

UGL Services Provides Green Facilities Services for Brevard College

UGL Services, a division of UGL Limited, was selected by Brevard College in December of 2010 to provide integrated facilities services. The renewable contract extends to June of 2015. The 35-person UGL Services staff provides custodial, housekeeping, landscaping and athletics field maintenance, and building operations and maintenance, as well as renovation and construction services for the 650-student campus that includes 38 buildings and covers 120 acres.

University of Chicago Plans Eckhardt Research Center

The University of Chicago will initiate construction on the $215 million William Eckhardt Research Center in September of 2011. The 265,000-sf facility will provide laboratories for astronomy, chemistry, physics, and astrophysics. Supporting advanced nanoscale reseach and development, the seven-story project will house the Institute for Molecular Engineering and will include two floors below ground. The Institute for Molecular Engineering will be operated in partnership with Argonne National Laboratory.

University of Texas at Arlington Completes Engineering Research Building

The University of Texas at Arlington completed the $126 million Engineering Research Building in December of 2010. The 234,000-gsf facility houses classrooms, research and teaching labs, a science and engineering library, collaboration space, faculty offices, and space for the departments of biomedical engineering and computer science. The project was designed by Page Southerland Page with RFD (Research Facilities Design) as laboratory design consultant.

College of the Holy Cross Attains LEED Gold for Integrated Science Complex

College of the Holy Cross attained LEED Gold sustainable design certification for the $64 million Integrated Science Complex in December of 2010. Located in Worcester, Mass., the four-story facility consists of the Park B. and Linda Smith Laboratories, a new four-story building, and the renovated Haberlin Hall. The project includes numerous features that produce an energy savings of more than 52% in cooling and 39% in heating, lowering total energy consumption by more than 31% over industry standard baseline.
