Ancora L&G began construction in August of 2023 on a $195 million life sciences center in Providence that will provide 80,000 sf of world-class research space for the Rhode Island Department of Health. Occupying the entirety of the second and third floors, the new state health lab will feature BSL-3 suites for the detection and mitigation of infectious disease agents and environmental hazards. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provided $81.7 million in funding for the facility, which will include a 2,700-sf core lab for genomic sequencing called the Center for Biological Sciences.
Catalyzing the Jewelry District's growing innovation ecosystem, the seven-story, 212,000-sf structure will also offer 120,000 sf of leasable R&D space, where Brown University will occupy 20,000 sf as the anchor tenant. HOK is providing architectural, programming, lab planning, structural engineering, and façade consulting services for the public-private project. Ground was officially broken in October of 2022 and completion is expected by 2026. Ancora L&G is a joint venture between Ancora and Legal & General Capital.
