Sonoma Valley Hospital Plans Renovation

Sonoma Valley Hospital is planning a $23 million renovation and expansion of its healthcare campus in Sonoma, Calif. The project will include seismic upgrades and construction of a three-story, 16,000-sf emergency department wing. Completion is expected by early 2012. The design-build team for the project is Otto Construction and Nach & Lewis of Sacramento.

Le Bonheur Children's Hospital Opens in Memphis

Le Bonheur Children's Hospital opened its new $340 million facility in Memphis in June of 2010. The 255-bed hospital features private patient rooms, a 60-bed neonatal intensive care unit, a 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit, and a 60-bed emergency center. Ground was broken on the project in September of 2008.

Ohio State University Medical Center Breaks Ground on Columbus Expansion

Ohio State University Medical Center broke ground on a $1 billion expansion in June of 2010. Located in Columbus, Ohio, the 17-story tower will house the academic medical center's new critical care and cancer hospitals. Completion is expected in 2014. The 276-bed Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital will occupy seven floors and the 144-bed critical care hospital will occupy three floors. The tower will also house laboratory and office space. The project includes completion of three floors in the existing biomedical research tower and electrical upgrades.

Baylor College of Medicine Builds Neurological Research Facility

Baylor College of Medicine will build out three floors in the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute (NRI) in Houston to accommodate translational research. The project is supported by $14.9 million in federal stimulus funding and will include research laboratories, offices, and the NMR Metabolomic Core. Completion is expected in spring of 2012.

Dartmouth College Plans Advanced Surgical Center

Dartmouth College was awarded $9.3 million in federal stimulus funding in spring of 2010 to construct the Advanced Surgical Center in Hanover, N.H. The facility will feature two operating theaters with intraoperative imaging systems that move between adjoining diagnostic suites. Supporting clinical and translational research in neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery, the center will provide MR, CT, ultrasound, and optical imaging technologies.

Newcastle University Constructs Translational Research Building

Newcastle University has selected ISG to construct the £7.1 million Translational Research Building in the United Kingdom. Housing research space, clinical facilities, and a business incubator, the four-story project will link the Henry Wellcome Biogerontology Building and the Clinical Ageing Research Unit. Completion is expected in summer of 2011.

The 40,700-sf facility will deliver advanced cancer care services with 40 private patient rooms and surgical suites. The project will include family areas, a conference center, physician collaboration space, and an integrative therapy center. The project architect is GLMV Architecture with Hutton Construction Corp. as general contractor.

Vanderbilt Medical Center Expands Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital

Vanderbilt Medical Center will begin construction in fall of 2010 on a $30 million expansion of Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. The 30,000-sf addition will provide 33 inpatient beds, a neonatal ICU, surgical suites, and research space. The design architect for the project is Earl Swensson Associates. The five-story addition will be built atop the existing pediatric emergency department.

Comprising two adjacent facilities, the project includes the Ellen Hockaday Center for Women’s Care and the Muriel I. Kauffman Women’s Heart Center. Providing imaging suites, maternal and fetal care, and urogynecology services, the Women’s Center is part of a $330 million master construction plan that includes a new patient tower housing Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart and Vascular Institute.

Loma Linda University opened its $32 million rehabilitation hospital in late May of 2010. The 24-bed facility features 476-sf patient rooms to support recovery from amputations or serious brain and spinal cord injuries. The hospital also provides therapy suites and equipment. A mock-up town square where patients can practice daily activities will also be constructed at the site.
