Miami University Plans Voice of America Learning Center
Miami University is planning the construction of the $5 million Voice of America Learning Center in West Chester Township, Ohio. The latest design describes a conference center, five classrooms, two computer labs, and a 120-seat auditorium. Accommodating 75 courses per week, the facility is expandable to an additional 10,000 sf. A wireless network linked directly to the Butler County fiber-optic loop will enable instructors to brief students from remote locations.
Washington University Constructs Earth and Planetary Science Building
Washington University in St. Louis will complete its new 148,000-sf Earth and Planetary Science Building in early fall of 2004. Designed by Tsoi/Kobus & Associates, the $33-million, four-story building will house the disciplines of chemistry, geology, physics, dynamics, and planetary science including the McDonnell Center for Space Sciences and the Geosciences Node of the NASA Planetary Data System.
Rainsville Technology Expands Manufacturing Plant
Rainsville Technology, a supplier of interior and plastic components for the Honda Odyssey minivan, has completed a major expansion of its Rainsville, Ala.-based automotive parts plant. The 126,000-sf project included the addition of a 16,000-sf office area and 11,000 sf of factory space. The project team was comprised of Birmingham firms DesignForm as architect and Doster Construction as general contractor.
Technology Park of Greater Louisville Developed at Former Naval Ordnance Station
The Technology Park of Greater Louisville will continue its revitalization with the addition of retail businesses and warehouse space. The 142-acre former Naval Ordnance Station site, managed by Titan Research & Development, is becoming a multi-use commercial and industrial park. Titan plans to spend between $75 and $100 million over the next ten years on the site. Expansion plans include the construction of a new 60,000-sf building in spring 2005 which will deliver in one year.
University of Pittsburgh Medical Builds Regional Cancer Center
The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) is joining with Jameson Health System in a 50-50 venture to create a $5-million regional cancer center in New Castle, Penn. The project will include the renovation of 6,500 sf in Jameson Health System’s Medical Arts Building and the construction of 1,000 sf of new clinical space. Operating as part of the UPMC Cancer Centers network, the facility will open in February 2005.
