The General Services Administration is engaged in a $122-million expansion of the E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. Courthouse in Washington, D.C. The 248,000-gsf annex will add nine courtrooms and 19 judges’ chambers connected by an atrium to the original building. Construction began in April 2002 and is expected to reach completion in November 2005. The project architect is Michael Graves/Smith Hinchman & Grylls Joint Venture, with Centex Construction as general contractor.

Kaiser Permanente broke ground on November 14, 2003 on a new replacement hospital and central plant at the Panorama City Medical Center in Panorama City, Calif. The 400,000-sf, six-level building will be sited adjacent to the existing facility and will connect to it at the basement level. The project will meet the new seismic requirements for all general acute-care California hospitals imposed by Senate Bill 1953.

Marvell Semiconductor will locate its new headquarters in four buildings recently purchased in Santa Clara, Calif. Totaling nearly 900,000-sf, the buildings are sited on almost 34 acres. Marvell, a fabless semiconductor subsidiary of Marvell Technology Group, will engage in operations including research and development, administration, and sales and marketing in the new facilities. The two-year relocation will begin in early 2004.

Fairfax, Va.-based federal contractor Anteon International is relocating its 400-employee systems engineering group from Crystal City to 50,000-sf in the new Federal Gateway Building in Washington, D.C. Anteon will occupy four of the building’s six floors.

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has dedicated its new South Tower. The 10-story facility is part of an ongoing $650 million West Philadelphia campus expansion project and will increase the hospital’s bed count from 430 to 381. The cardiac center and cardiac intensive-care unit will expand in the new tower, which will also accommodate oncology, emergency medicine, newborn intensive care, and pediatric intensive care and endocrinology.
