The University of New Hampshire is engaged in a $25.5 million expansion and renovation of James Hall. Comprised of a 15,000-sf addition to the 1920s science building, the project will increase the facility’s footprint from 60,000-sf to 75,000-sf. The new James Hall will house the departments of natural resources and earth sciences and is slated for completion in December of 2009. The building will feature a wildlife wet research lab, a walk-in environmental chamber, and climate controlled rooms. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.

Marshall Medical Center is planning an $100 million expansion of its hospital in Placerville, Calif. Designed by Anova Architects, the three-story, 88,000-sf acute care wing will include a 12-bed intensive care unit, a 17-bed birthing center, an expanded 32-bed emergency room, and approximately 35 acute care beds. Site work will begin by year-end 2008 with occupancy slated for January of 2011.

Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital began design work in December of 2008 on a $300 million expansion of its healthcare campus in Valencia, Calif. The project includes three medical buildings, a new patient wing, a helipad, and parking. Adding up to 120 beds, the expansion will provide additional space for surgery, maternity care, and clinical services. The medical buildings will house outpatient care, diagnosis services, imaging, and administration. Construction will begin on the first medical building in 2009. The patient wing will break ground within four years.

Louisiana State University selected the site for its planned academic medical center in downtown New Orleans in November of 2008. A new Veterans Affairs Medical Center will be built adjacent to LSU’s facility. The $2 billion, 70-acre joint medical campus will replace facilities lost in Hurricane Katrina and will anchor a developing biosciences industry corridor.

Vistec Lithography opened its global headquarters, R&D, and manufacturing facility in Watervliet, N.Y., in late November of 2008. The facility will provide the nanotechnology company with 30,000-sf of research, administrative, and manufacturing space in the Arsenal Business and Technology Campus. The project was designed by M+W Zander and features cleanrooms, production space, and offices.
