Cambridge Architectural Introduces Solucent Mesh Shading System
Cambridge Architectural, a provider of sustainable architectural mesh systems, introduced Solucent™ in fall of 2008. Solucent is an energy-saving and daylighting mesh shading system for building exteriors and interiors. Providing an aesthetic and effective energy and light management solution, Solucent mesh shading systems reduce solar heat gain by shading the sun, leading to significant savings on cooling costs. Mesh is also a versatile daylighting material which can allow the desired amount of natural light through, reducing the need for electric light.
University of Oklahoma Builds National Cancer Institute
The University of Oklahoma Cancer Institute is slated for completion in summer of 2009. The $210 million, 220,000-sf National Cancer Institute is located at Oklahoma Health Center in Oklahoma City. Construction began on the seven-story project in early 2008.
John Muir Medical Center Constructs Patient Care Tower
John Muir Medical Center is building the Thomas J. and Muriel T. Long Patient Care Tower in Walnut Creek, Calif. The five-story, 380,000-sf facility was designed by Ratcliff of Emeryville, Calif., with ARUP as structural engineer. The 242-bed facility was constructed to meet rigorous seismic requirements and features six rooftop healing gardens, private patient rooms, a 24-bed ICU, three surgical suites, and a 35-bed neonatal ICU.
Victoria Hospital Builds Cancer Research Center
Victoria Hospital began construction in fall of 2008 on a $4 million cancer research center in London, Ontario. Sited on the third floor of the Victoria Research Laboratories adjacent to Victoria Hospital’s cancer center, the 8,300-sf Gerald C. Baines Centre for Translational Research will house clinical research facilities, interdisciplinary research space, and an imaging laboratory. Completion is expected by early 2010.
University of Edinburgh Breaks Ground on Biomedical Research Building
The University of Edinburgh broke ground on a £58 million biomedical research center in December of 2008. Located on the University’s Easter Bush campus in Roslin, U.K., the project will house laboratories and offices for research in genetics, developmental biology, neuroscience, immunology, infectious diseases, and animal sciences. The facility is slated for completion in 2011 and will be complemented by a new veterinary teaching building and small animal hospital. The project architect is CUH2A.
