Ohio University began construction in January of 2025 on the $75 million Heritage Translational Research Center (HTRC) in Athens. Designed by Perkins&Will and DesignGroup, the 80,000-sf facility will consolidate laboratories and operations currently dispersed across campus, creating a collaborative ecosystem for clinical innovation. The four-story structure will provide bench space for translational biomedical research, as well as labs and support spaces for population health and clinical research. Promoting interaction and team science, the HTRC will serve institutes within the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine including:
- The Ohio Musculoskeletal and Neurological Institute
- The Diabetes Institute
- The Infectious and Tropical Disease Institute
- The Office of Research and Grants
- The Clinical & Translational Research Unit
Integrating an animal care facility, the center will also house administrative offices, the university’s community health programs, and the College of Health Sciences and Professions’ Appalachian Institute to Advance Health Equity Science. A flexible layout will support future growth and ensure adaptability to meet changing needs. Sited on Union Green adjacent to the Medical Education Center, the development will enhance connectivity across campus and with academic and industry partners.
Gilbane is acting as general contractor and completion is expected in late 2026.
