General Services Building Completes Building 53 at the Denver Federal Center Campus

Published 10/24/2024

The General Services Administration (GSA) completed construction on Building 53 at the Denver Federal Center in September of 2024. Designed by Gensler, the complex project involved the transformation of almost 200,000 sf in a 1940s-era structure into a modern and collaborative office environment. The sustainable facility collocates five federal agencies:

  • Office of the Chief Information Officer (Department of the Interior)
  • Business Integration Office (Department of the Interior)
  • Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
  • Fish and Wildlife Services
  • Veterans Health Administration

Accommodating nearly 1,000 employees, this collaborative hub will save nearly $12 million in annual taxpayer dollars by eliminating seven private leases and improving energy performance. GSA's ambitious decarbonization goals are advanced by the incorporation of high-performance systems and technologies, which also promote economic growth through the creation of clean energy jobs. JE Dunn's role as design-build contractor included reroofing, abatement, a complete interior renovation, and tenant fit-out, as well as overseeing extensive MEPF upgrades.
