The Lawrence J. Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine will break ground in summer of 2023 on a $375 million research complex in the Oxford in the United Kingdom. Designed by Foster & Partners, the highly collaborative campus will enable teams of investigators and physicians to reimagine cancer treatment while enhancing overall human health. An elevated timber walkway will link two sites, one of which will house a renovated and expanded structure offering gathering spaces, research labs, an oncology clinic, an imaging suite, and a 250-seat sunken auditorium. A newly constructed building planned for an adjacent parcel in the Oxford Science Park will accommodate further research labs and educational venues.
Surrounded by extensive gardens, the sustainably designed development will feature a spherical library topped by a timber geodesic dome that will rotate over the course of the day to provide solar shading. Laing O'Rourke is the general contractor for the project, which represents the Institute’s first facility outside of Los Angeles.
