The Pennsylvania State University's Health and Human Development Building was awarded the 2015 Gold Project Leadership Award in November of 2015 by the Construction Owners Association of America (COAA). Completed in summer of 2015, the structure was the second building of a two-phase expansion of the College of Health and Human Development, collocating several research centers near the main academic departments. The facility was designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson using Building Information Modeling (BIM) and built by Massaro Construction and Leonard S. Fiore. The project was a state-funded, multiple-prime contract with 17 primes. While use of a full Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) agreement was eliminated, many principles of IPD were implemented in the construction process. The design team delivered a fully coordinated BIM model on bid day along with traditional plans and specifications, reducing construction coordination by 50 percent with nearly zero field clashes in the 95,000-sf new construction portion of the building.
