Emory University Opens Health Sciences Research Building

Emory University began occupying the $90 million Health Sciences Research Building in Atlanta in June of 2013. Designed by ZGF Architects and built by Brasfield & Gorrie, the 200,000-sf facility provides open labs for research on immunology and vaccines, neurosciences, drug discovery, pediatric health, cancer, gastroenterology, biomedical engineering, and human genetics. The building can accommodate up to 500 people, including 74 faculty researchers and their teams, with four stories above ground and one below grade housing a rodent research vivarium. The facility includes BSL-2 and BSL-3 labs as well as a 160-seat auditorium. The Health Sciences Research Building is connected on the third and fourth floors to the Emory Children's Center which houses the Department of Pediatrics. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.
