Henry Ford Health Care Completes West Bloomfield Hospital

Henry Ford Health Care will open the $360 million West Bloomfield Hospital in Michigan on March 15, 2009. The four-story, 733,000-sf facility will provide 192 private, sound-insulated patient rooms as well as robotic surgery and MRI, PET, and CT imaging technologies. LEED certification for sustainable design will be sought for the facility. Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital will also feature a retail mall and an upscale grocery market. The facility was designed to accommodate expansion to a total of 450 beds.

Silver Cross Hospital Breaks Ground on Joliet Facility

Silver Cross Hospital broke ground in January of 2009 on a $400 million replacement facility in Joliet, Ill. Designed by RTKL, the 560,000-sf patient-centric hospital features 289 private rooms that are acuity adaptable for intermediate care and in-room procedures. The facility features advanced surgical suites and cardiac catheterization labs. Completion is slated for fall of 2011.

Lourdes Health System Breaks Ground on Replacement Hospital

Lourdes Health System broke ground on the $211 million Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, La., in December of 2009. The six-story, 396,000-sf replacement hospital is slated for completion in July of 2011. Initially housing 164 beds, the facility is designed to expand to eight stories for a total of 332 beds in the future. The hospital will provide emergency, surgery, imaging, trauma, pharmacy, and laboratory services. Construction will begin on an adjacent 180,000-sf medical office building in 2009.

Virtua Health Builds Voorhees Hospital

Virtua Health is building a $323 million replacement hospital in Voorhees, N.J. The 690,000-sf project is comprised of an eight-story, 364,000-sf inpatient facility housing 360 beds and a five-story, 298,000-sf support services building. The hospital features computerized patient rooms for optimal patient monitoring. The construction manager is Turner Construction Company. Completion is expected in 2011.

Queensway Carleton Hospital Builds Cancer Center

Queensway Carleton Hospital is building a four-story cancer center in Ottawa, Canada. Housing two clinics, three radiation treatment machines, and 33 chemotherapy spaces, the project began construction in early 2008 and is slated for completion in fall of 2009. The general contractor is PCL Construction. The facility is created in partnership with The Ottawa Hospital Regional Cancer Centre and Infrastructure Ontario.

Princeton Healthcare Builds Plainsboro Medical Center

Princeton Healthcare System has selected Turner Construction Company to construct a $441 million replacement hospital for University Medical Center of Princeton in Plainsboro Township, N.J. The 636,000-sf, 269-bed facility will feature private rooms, 10 surgical suites, oncology, and cardiac labs. Sustainable design elements include abundant natural lighting and highly efficient HVAC systems. Occupancy is slated for summer of 2011. A planned second phase will add 321,000 sf and 100 private rooms.

Orange Regional Medical Center Builds Wallkill Hospital

Orange Regional Medical Center is building a $317 million hospital in Wallkill, N.Y. Construction began on the seven-story, 606,000-sf facility in November of 2007 with occupancy expected in early 2011. The facility will provide 354 beds in private rooms, a 50-bay emergency department, ICU, maternity, orthopedics, and oncology.

Tufts University Builds School of Dental Medicine Addition

Tufts University is constructing a 95,000-sf addition to the School of Dental Medicine in Boston. Designed by ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge and built by Shawmut Design and Construction, the five-story vertical expansion is sited on top of Tufts’ existing 10-story facility. Occupancy is expected by year-end 2009. The $64 million project features two new clinical floors, an expanded simulation lab, instructional facilities, a conference center, and administrative offices.

Sharp Memorial Hospital Opens Acute Care Tower

Sharp Memorial Hospital opened the $195 million Stephen Birch Healthcare Center in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego in January of 2009. The seven-story, 334-bed facility features entirely private rooms with flat-screen televisions, two nursing stations per floor for optimal patient monitoring, and additional emergency and trauma center beds. The construction manager for the 315,000-sf acute care tower was Gilbane Building Co.

Ochsner Baptist Medical Center Opens New Orleans Expansion

Ochsner Baptist Medical Center opened a $12 million expansion of its Uptown New Orleans campus in January of 2009. Comprised of a 6,000-sf emergency department, a 12-bed ICU, and a 43-bed inpatient wing featuring entirely private rooms, the project includes a comprehensive imaging center with MRI and CT instruments, six surgical suites, and two cardiac catheterization suites. The expansion was designed by Rozas/Ward Architects with Construction South as general contractor.

Comprised of three buildings sited on 7.5 acres, the outpatient medical office facility is being designed by Erdman Co. Baltimore Washington Medical Center Opens Patient Tower

Baltimore Washington Medical Center opened the $117 million Patient Care Building in Glen Burnie, Md., in January of 2009. The 224,000-sf tower includes three medical surgical suites, a surgical step-down unit, a 24-bed critical care unit, and 111 private patient rooms. A new labor and delivery department will open in fall of 2009. The project is comprised of seven finished floors and two floors of shell space. Baltimore Washington Medical Center is an affiliate of the University of Maryland Medical System.

Vernon Jubilee Hospital Constructs Patient Care Tower

Vernon Jubilee Hospital will begin building a $178 million patient care tower in February of 2009. The seven-story, 181,500-sf project is slated for completion in May of 2011. The facility will provide inpatient beds, surgical suites, ICU, and a birthing center. A 135,000-sf diagnostic and treatment building will also be built at the site.
