University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Breaks Ground on Engineering & Information Technologies Building

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford broke ground on the $18 million Engineering & Information Technologies Building in August of 2021. Designed by HED and LPA Partners to enable team-based learning and discovery, the 39,000-sf facility will provide engineering labs and shops, computer labs, large group classrooms, a data center, and offices for faculty and staff. All building functions will open towards a two-story collaborative center to enhance interaction, visibility, and accessibility.

MiraCosta Community College Plans Chemistry and Biotechnology Building

MiraCosta Community College is planning to construct a 23,000-sf chemistry and biotechnology building in Oceanside, Calif. The $46.9 million project, crafted through a design-build partnership between HED and C.W. Driver, will provide leading-edge environments for the school's growing biotechnology program and other STEM courses in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Featuring flexible, 40-person classrooms, the facility will offer a vibrant mix of instructional, work, social, and laboratory spaces.

University of Michigan Opens Ford Motor Company Robotics Building

The University of Michigan opened the $75 million Ford Motor Company Robotics Building in March of 2021 in Ann Arbor. As the new home of the U-M Robotics Institute, the 134,000-sf facility provides the College of Engineering with collaborative R&D labs, maker spaces, high-bay research areas, a three-story fly zone for autonomous aerial vehicles, a Mars yard for rover and lander prototyping, and an outdoor obstacle course for walking robots.

University of California, Irvine Begins Construction on Health Sciences Complex

The University of California, Irvine began construction on a $134 million health sciences complex in October of 2020. Designed by The S/L/A/M Collaborative and HED, the project will enhance synergies between the disciplines of medicine, nursing, population health, and pharmacy to deliver a dynamic pedagogy of team-based care. Supporting an innovative curriculum based on integrative health, the complex is expected to be a national model for the future of interprofessional education.
