Intel Plans Fab 42 in Chandler

Intel Corp. will begin construction in mid-2011 on the $5 billion Fab 42 in Chandler, Ariz. The facility will be the most advanced high-volume semiconductor manufacturing plant in the world and will produce microprocessors with 14-nanometer transistors. Completion is expected in 2013.

GlobalFoundries Builds Admin 2

GlobalFoundries will break ground in May of 2011 on the 221,000-sf Admin 2 in Malta, N.Y. The facility will be located in the Luther Forest Technology Campus adjacent to Fab 8. Admin 2 will accommodate up to 1,500 administrative employees and is slated for completion in August of 2012.

Rady Children's Hospital Attains LEED Gold for Acute Care Pavilion

Rady Children’s Hospital and Health Center was awarded LEED Gold sustainable design certification in February of 2011 for the new $260 million Acute Care Pavilion. Located in Kearney Mesa, Calif., the 279,000-sf facility was designed by Stantec and built by McCarthy. The facility provides 72 private patient rooms, 84 medical-surgical beds, 16 operating rooms, a neonatal ICU, a cancer center, and several healing gardens. The project is the first pediatric hospital in California to be LEED certified and also meets state seismic regulations.

Mercy Health System Breaks Ground on Edmond Complex

Mercy Health System broke ground in February of 2011 on an $88 million medical complex in Edmond, Okla. The three-story, 200,000-sf facility will provide clinical care, outpatient surgery, imaging, rehabilitation, cardiac care, a women’s center, and orthopedic services. Occupancy is expected in mid-2013. The project architect is Archimages Architecture & Interiors.

UC San Francisco Opens Ray and Dagmar Dolby Regeneration Medicine Building

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) opened the $123 million Ray and Dagmar Dolby Regeneration Medicine Building in February of 2011. The translational research facility was designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects to promote multidisciplinary collaboration and is the headquarters of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research. Located on the university's Parnassus campus, the 74,832-gsf (46,283-asf) building houses open laboratories, offices, and support. Ground was broken on the facility in fall of 2008.
