Memorial Hermann Hospital Expands in Houston
Memorial Herman Hospital will begin construction in summer of 2014 on a $650 million expansion of its Houston facility. The project includes the addition of 24 operating rooms, 16 emergency bays, 160 inpatient beds, parking, and a café. Six floors of shell space will be built to accommodate future growth. Completion is expected by 2018. Memorial Herman is the primary teaching hospital for the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical School.
University of Manitoba and Magellan Aerospace Create Advanced Satellite Integration Facility
The University of Manitoba is partnering with Magellan Aerospace to create the Advanced Satellite Integration Facility. The 6,000-sf ASIF will be located at Magellan's Winnipeg site and will be jointly funded and operated with the University. The project will support the simultaneous assembly, integration, and testing of up to three satellite buses, and will also serve as a training center for satellite engineering and production.
Danforth Plant Science Center Breaks Ground on Research Expansion
The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center broke ground on a $45 million research facility in May of 2014 in Creve Coeur, Mo. The three-story, 79,000-sf expansion will provide flexible labs, plant growth chambers, and core facilities for crop science research. Designed by Flad Architects and Christner, the building will accommodate approximately 100 investigators working in 10 teams. The construction manager is McCarthy Building Companies and Landmark Contract Management is the project manager.
University of Montana Plans Missoula College
The University of Montana is planning to build the $32 million Missoula College on East Broadway in Missoula, Mont. The four-story, 105,000-sf building will house 30 disciplines and programs from the former UM College of Technology, now renamed Missoula College. Designed by StudioForma Architects in Bozeman, the project will provide classrooms, teaching labs, conference rooms, faculty offices, a temperature-controlled environment, and a library. Construction will begin in early 2015 with completion expected in mid-2017.
Pirbright Institute of Animal Health Plans CL2 Laboratory
The Pirbright Institute has awarded John Sisk & Son a $28.6 million contract to build a research facility for the study of livestock diseases. The two-story, 43,000-sf project is referred to as the CL2 Laboratory and will accommodate 90 scientists. BREAAM Excellent sustainable design certification will be sought for the biocontainment level two facility. The lab is part of a planned $168 million expansion of the Pirbright campus that will include a $118 million facility supporting avian disease research.
