Bristol Community College Breaks Ground on Health and Science Building
Bristol Community College broke ground on the $27 million Sbrega Health and Science Building in May of 2014 in Fall River, Mass. Designed by Sasaki Associates, the 46,000-sf collaborative facility will accommodate programs in biology, biotechnology, chemistry, clinical laboratory science, dental hygiene, environmental science, medical technology, microbiology, and nursing. The building will include classrooms, teaching labs, offices, and an atrium. The construction manager for the project is BOND.
Caribbean Public Health Agency Opens BSL-3 Lab
The Caribbean Public Health Agency opened a BSL-3 biocontainment laboratory in May of 2013 in Trinidad & Tobago. Located in Port of Spain, the $2.5 million facility will support rapid sample processing for the detection of biological agents and infectious diseases. The lab was manufactured by GERMFREE, donated by the Government of Canada, and provided in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization.
HemoShear Occupies New Headquarters and Research Facility
HemoShear occupied its new headquarters and research facility in Charlottesville in May of 2014. The renovated building provides 16,000 sf of lab and office space with 12,000 sf to accommodate future growth. The facility will accommodate streamlined R&D operations with advanced instrumentation to support HemoShear's translational human tissue platforms and predictive bioanalytics for pharmaceutical discovery.
University of Minnesota Plans Physics Lab Renovation
The University of Minnesota is planning an $85 million renovation of the 87-year-old Tate Laboratory of Physics in Minneapolis. The project will provide modern lecture halls and classrooms, instructional labs, faculty offices, collaborative study spaces, conference rooms, and dedicated space for the Fine Theoretical Physics Institute and the Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics. The building will also accommodate teaching and research programs of the School of Earth Sciences.
Arkansas Tech University Plans Allied Health Building
Arkansas Tech University will begin construction in October of 2014 on a 20,273-sf allied health building on the Ozark campus. Supported by $6 million in revenue bond funding, the two-story facility will provide technology-rich teaching labs and clinical simulation suites as well as faculty and staff offices, three computer labs, and a testing center. Completion is expected in November of 2015 with occupancy in spring of 2016.
