EMC Plans New R&D Complex in Bellingham
EMC Corp. has plans for a $200 million, 1,166,000 gsf complex at a 144-acre site in northeastern Bellingham. A total of 486,000 sf of R&D space will be housed in three 162,000-sf two-story buildings. A 100,000-sf accessory building will also be constructed that may be used for training, day care, wastewater treatment, and/or an athletic center. Space to accommodate 3,500 vehicles is also planned. Construction is scheduled for completion in November 2003.
ACP-ASIM Expands in Philadelphia
American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine (ACP-ASIM) is planning to expand its headquarters on Independence Mall in Center City Philadelphia. ACP-ASIM will build a new 150,000-sf, $37 million headquarters adjacent to its existing facility to accommodate its expanding programs and staff. Philadelphia-based Ballinger, architects and engineers, will link the new nine-story structure to the existing building at every floor through a glass-enclosed connector.
Genesys Telecom Labs Relocates to Mission Bay
Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories Inc. has plans to relocate from San Francisco to a 285,000-sf, six-story office building in Mission Bay being developed by Catellus Development Corp. Pending final city approval of the building, groundbreaking could take place in late 2000 or early 2001, with completion planned for summer of 2002. Genesys, a subsidiary of the French firm Alcatel, provides call center software.
Internet Center to Break Ground at TeleCom City
Internet Center @ TeleCom City, a $15 million telecommunications project approved by the Mystic Valley Development Commission in late May, will create a state-of-the-art facility in TeleCom City Park where General Electric once built tanks during World War II. Demolition of the existing structure in June will give way to a two-story, 260,000-sf structure, 100,000 sf of which is scheduled for completion by year's end. The building will be subdividable into 30,000-sf areas, and will be wired with fiber-optic lines.
Piazza Del Corleone Breaks Ground
Piazza Del Corleone, a $100-million to $125-million telecommunications facility, is slated to break ground in July in San Francisco. Two three-story buildings are planned, with completion of the building shells by December 2000. San Jose-based Habitec Architecture and Planning is designing the 324,000-sf to 500,00-sf project. Special features include water-tight rooms, link redundancy, multiple fiber-optic cables, reinforced floors, space for back-up power, on-site round-the-clock security, and seismic reinforcements to hospital-level standards.
