Worcester Polytechnic Opens Bioengineering Institute
Worcester Polytechnic Institute has opened its new Bioengineering Institute in Worcester, Mass. The project is the centerpiece of the 15-acre former brownfield site called Gateway Park, slated by the city for redevelopment as a biotechnology campus. The Institute will enable early-stage technology to move from lab through development to a stage attractive to venture capitalists and investors.
Sutter Health Develops Northern California Facilities
Sutter Solano Medical Center in Vallejo has begun construction of the 80,000-sf Sutter Fairfield Surgery Center and Health Village in Fairfield, Calif. The $26- to $27-million project will include an outpatient care center and medical office building and is slated for completion in April 2004. Additionally, Sutter Delta Medical Center will construct a new women’s health facility and will expand its Antioch emergency room. Sutter Tracy Community Hospital is expanding its emergency, birthing, and surgery services.
U.S. Pharmacopeia Expands Rockville Headquarters
U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP), a nonprofit public health organization, will construct up to 150,000 sf of lab and office space adjacent to its current 80,000-sf Rockville, Md., headquarters. USP is located in the Twinbrook neighborhood, just north of the Department of Health and Human Services which USP serves.
Tyco Heathcare Retail Group Occupies Henry County Facility
Tyco Healthcare Retail Group will occupy 608,000-sf of the 818,000-sf former Amazon.com warehouse facility in Henry County, Ga. The facilities in the Greenwood Industrial Park, Building 8 will replace Tyco’s 227,600-sf Atlanta distribution center when the healthcare products manufacturing firm moves to the new space in September 2003.
Emory University Builds Pediatric Center
Emory University has initiated construction on a new 144,000-sf, $42-million pediatrics building in Atlanta. The six-story facility, slated for completion in summer 2004, will house 31 exam rooms grouped with separate waiting rooms. Setting apart the Emory Children’s Center and the Department of Pediatrics, the facility will consolidate and replace several smaller pediatric operations, providing increased clinic, office, and research space.
