Thales Avionics Completes Irvine Facility Upgrade

Thales Avionics has completed the design and construction of a tenant improvement project for its two-story, 127,000-sf Irvine, Calif., facility. Located in the Irvine Spectrum Business Park, the project was designed by Irvine-based Ware Malcomb with Turelk of Long Beach, Calif., as general contractor. The facility includes a manufacturing area; R&D engineering and training space; corporate lobby; general office space; conference rooms; demonstration rooms; secure access; a vibration room; and an exterior LN2 tank.

Honeywell Breaks Ground on Wichita Manufacturing Facility

Honeywell International broke ground in early May 2005 on a new $8-million manufacturing facility in Wichita, Kan. Located on 6.3 acres at the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport, the 57,200-sf building will consolidate area operations as well as allowing room for future expansion. The project team is comprised of Wichita-based firms Gossen Livingston Associates as architect and Dondlinger & Sons Construction as general contractor.

VEKA Constructs Terrell Manufacturing Plant

Germany-based VEKA Inc., a maker of vinyl frames for encasing residential windows and doors, will construct a 100,000-sf manufacturing plant in Terrell, Texas. Sited on 24.5 acres in the Metrocrest Business Park, the $6-million facility is expected to open in fall of 2005. VEKA is planning a three-phase expansion of the plant in the future which could enlarge the facility's footprint up to 500,000 sf.

University of Kansas Opens Teaching and Research Facility

The University of Kansas has opened the 82,000-sf Victor and Helen Regnier Hall on its Edwards Campus in Overland Park, Kan. The four-level facility provides new areas for teaching and research and more than doubles the campus' original space. Regnier Hall houses a 240-seat auditorium, ten classrooms, eight tiered lecture halls, three computer labs, and faculty and administrative space.

Cal State Sacramento Completes Academic Information Resource Center

California State University, Sacramento has completed the $17.3-million Academic Information Resource Center. Designed by Dreyfus + Blackford Architects of Sacramento and built by McCarthy , the facility will serve as the university's technology hub, providing student service facilities including: interactive learning labs, 24-hour student computer labs, video studios and classrooms, study areas, and distance learning facilities.
