Accruent Acquires FAMIS Software
Accruent, a leading provider of Real Estate Performance Management (RPM) solutions, announced in February of 2008 the acquisition of FAMIS Software, a developer of Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS) based in Irvine, Calif. Combined, these companies will deliver a comprehensive solution for the facilities management and real estate lifecycle from market planning to administration and operational management.
CSU Fullerton Builds Trigen Facility
California State University, Fullerton initiated construction on January 23, 2008 on a “trigen” facility. Uniting the three functions of heating, cooling, and electricity, the plant will provide from four to 12 megawatts of electricity. Natural gas will turn a turbine to create electricity; heat generated in that process will power one of the chillers. The design-build contractor for the facility is DMJM Harris. Completion is expected in approximately one year.
Johns Hopkins Installs MAGNETOM Verio MRI
Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore installed the the MAGNETOM® Verio magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system from Siemens Medical Solutions in January of 2008. Combining 3 Tesla strength and sensitivity with a 70-cm open bore and Tim™ (Total imaging matrix) technology, the MAGNETOM Verio is helping Hopkins Bayview to provide high-field imaging to many people who previously could not benefit from the technology.
Faulkner State Community College Constructs Science Building
Faulkner State Community College will begin construction in summer of 2008 on a three-story, $14 million facility housing nursing education and labs for biology, chemistry, physics, and microbiology on its Fairhope, Ala., campus. Designed by Walcott Adams Verneuille Architects, the 52,000-sf project will include a student center and space for a cinematography training program. Completion is expected in 2009 or 2010.
Livermore National Laboratory Opens BSL-3 Facility
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s BSL-3 laboratory became operational in late January of 2008. The $2.45-million facility supports select agent research in a one-story, permanent, self-contained 1,600-sf building with three individual laboratory rooms: an animal lab, a mechanical room, and shower/change rooms.
