University of Tennessee Biocontainment Lab Nears Completion

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s $25 million Regional Biocontainment Laboratory is slated for completion in early 2009. Located in the UT-Baptist Research Park in Memphis, the 30,315-gsf (16,250-nsf) project will provide 7,300-sf of BSL-3 research space, 1,257-sf of BSL-2 research space, and 7,695-sf of office and support space. Additionally, UTHSC will initiate construction in the first half of 2009 on a 50,000-sf to 70,000-sf vivarium adjacent to the RBL. Completion is expected in 2010.

Purdue University Plans Seng-Liang Engineering Facility

Purdue University is planning to construct the $18 million Seng-Liang Wang Hall in West Lafayette, Ind. Housing the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the 39,370-sf facility is slated for completion in 2010. The project will include the Robert and Janet Fenwick Very-Large-Scale Integration and Circuit Design Complex, a computational lab, research laboratories, conference rooms, interaction space, and faculty offices. The project will include specialized research laboratories for optics, photonics, circuit design, and computational nanoelectronics.

University of Oregon Plans Lewis Integrative Science Building

The University of Oregon is planning to construct the $65 million Robert and Beverly Lewis Integrative Science Building in Eugene. Slated for completion by 2012, the 100,000-sf interdisciplinary research and teaching building will house facilities for neurosciences, life sciences, geosciences, materials and physical sciences, and computational and information sciences. Designed to foster collaboration, the project will include shared analysis facilities, advanced imaging technologies, conference rooms, and classrooms.

Clarian Arnett Hospital Opens in Lafayette

The new $238 million Clarian Arnett Hospital opened in Lafayette, Ind., in October of 2008. The 350,000-sf acute care facility broke ground in spring of 2006. The not-for-profit hospital includes 152 beds and six operating rooms. Clarian Arnett Hospital is a joint venture of Clarian Health Partners and Arnett HealthSystem.

Al Fateh University Expands in Libya

Al Fateh University has selected Hill International as construction manager for a $2 billion expansion of its campus in Tripoli, Libya. The project includes 18 million sf of new construction and expansion in 39 buildings, as well infrastructure improvements to existing facilities. Completion is slated for March of 2010.
