James Haley Veterans Medical Center Completes Expansion
A $12 million surgical suite expansion at James Haley Veterans Medical Center in Tampa was completed in summer of 2009. The 40,000-sf project included the construction of a $7.5 million, 25,000-sf addition to the hospital’s pathology laboratory. A $3.5 million, 12,000-sf renovation and expansion of the emergency department was also completed. The design architect for both projects was VOA Associates.
Auburn University Plans Science Center
Auburn University will construct the 68,000-sf Center for Advanced Science, Innovation, and Commerce in Auburn, Ala. Funded by a $14.4 million stimulus grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the $29 million science building will house 21 laboratories including three genomics labs and two simulation labs.
Rice University Constructs Brockman Hall for Physics
Rice University will begin construction in fall of 2009 on the $44.5 million Brockman Hall for Physics in Houston. The National Institute of Standards and Technology awarded $11 million in stimulus funding for the project in July of 2009.
Johnson Controls Creates Enhanced Energy and Emissions Management System
Johnson Controls announced the release of the enhanced Energy and Emissions Management System in July of 2009. The system provides global organizations with the capability to analyze energy trends and calculate greenhouse gas levels. It measures, manages, and forecasts activities related to energy cost, consumption, energy efficiency projects, fleet emissions, and waste. Organizations can receive easy-to-understand, auditable reports to validate incoming data.
University of Miami Builds Marine Technology and Life Sciences Seawater Research Building
The University of Miami was awarded $15 million in stimulus funding in July of 2009 by the National Institute of Standards and Technology to build the $44 million Marine Technology and Life Sciences Seawater (MTLSS) Research Building in Miami, Fla. To be constructed at the University’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, the facility will house state-of-the-art seawater laboratories and multidisciplinary research facilities dedicated to two major areas of coastal studies—the destructive power of hurricanes and the biology of coastal waters.
