Tulane University opened the Steven and Jann Paul Hall for Science and Engineering in January of 2024 in New Orleans. Designed by Payette and Waggonner & Ball, the 76,000-sf building offers flexible research venues, sophisticated classrooms, and common spaces for increased student and faculty interaction. The interdisciplinary facility houses the Tulane Brain Institute, as well as accommodating investigators from the departments of biomedical engineering, computer science, engineering physics, psychology, and cell and molecular biology.
This vibrant hub for learning and innovation will leverage Tulane’s entrepreneurial ecosystem to accelerate the commercialization of new technologies. Teams of investigators will engage in collaborative discovery in open laboratories with glass walls. Office bays are distributed throughout Paul Hall to supply individual and shared workspaces for faculty and staff. Spanning 29,000 sf, a Class 1000 cleanroom features advanced instrumentation for the characterization and processing of materials, substances, and devices at the micrometer and nanometer scales. On the fifth floor, the Animal Research Facility Core Lab includes procedure rooms, a behavioral suite, and a vivarium. Topped by an enclosed mechanical penthouse, the five-story structure also provides conference rooms, study zones, and a 200-seat auditorium.
Representing an investment of approximately $50 million, the project was built by Broadmoor with Schrenk Endom & Flanagan as civil engineer, GVA as MEP+FP engineer, and Morphy Makofsky as structural engineer. Dana Brown & Associates was the landscape architect and Thompson Building Energy Solutions performed commissioning services. Ground was broken on the development in 2020.
