University of Arizona Health Sciences broke ground in late October of 2024 on the Center for Advanced Molecular and Immunological Therapies (CAMI). Delivered by the design-build team of SmithGroup and McCarthy Building Companies, the transformational project will serve as a physical and metaphorical gateway to the Downtown Phoenix district and the Phoenix Bioscience Core. The approximately $425 million facility will drive advances in precision medicine and develop novel treatments for cancer, autoimmune conditions, and infectious diseases.

Spanning over 200,000 sf, the seven-story structure will house research labs, a clinical suite, administrative offices, collaborative meeting spaces, and a café. An urban garden will provide outdoor settings for informal interaction and relaxation. Integrating progressive construction technologies, CAMI will leverage robust building systems to optimize performance and efficiency.

SmithGroup is acting as both architect and MEP engineer, with Martin, White & Griffis as structural engineer and Dibble as civil engineer. Other project team members include Bergelectric, W.D. Manor Mechanical Contractors, and Kovach. Completion is expected in 2027.
