Healthpeak Properties recently opened a world-class amenities center called The Hangar on the Vantage life science campus in South San Francisco. Flad Architects' vision for the 40,000-sf facility has created a dynamic hub for interaction and relaxation, complete with a full-service rooftop bar, a food hall, a fitness center, and more. A dramatic design inspired by airplane hangars honors the area's industrial past and its role as the birthplace of biotechnology. The double-height lobby provides a large public gathering and conference space that is protected from the elements and connected to the outdoor plaza. A monumental stair can serve as an auditorium setting for large meetings and events.
Hathaway Dinwiddie was the general contractor for the project, with Meyers+ Engineering as MEP engineer and Salas O'Brien as structural engineer.
Also designed by Flad, the Vantage development includes two structures offering a total of 346,000 sf of leading-edge lab and office space. The master plan for the site describes a six-building ecosystem for innovation, collaboration, and discovery.
