Case Western Reserve University celebrated the official groundbreaking of the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building (ISEB) in October of 2024 in Cleveland. Designed by HGA in partnership with local firm DVA Architecture, the 189,000-sf facility will collocate more than 60 principal investigators from the School of Medicine, the School of Engineering, and the College of Arts and Sciences. The $300 million structure will offer both wet and dry labs, a shared core lab, and advanced technology platforms. Students at all levels will be active participants in collaborative discovery and innovation in areas such as climate change, artificial intelligence, sustainable manufacturing, and materials science. The five-story building will also accommodate offices, gathering spaces, and a café. A communal setting on the ground floor will encourage knowledge exchange and informal interaction.

Revitalizing the existing Case Quad, the development includes the creation of a landscaped courtyard that links to an ADA-accessible pathway. Abundant external and internal glazing will put science on display while supplying natural light throughout the facility. Targeting LEED Platinum certification, the sustainable project is being delivered by Discovery Builders, a joint venture of Turner Construction, Next Generation Construction, The AKA Team, and Adrian Maldonado & Associates. Occupancy is expected in fall of 2026.
