Stanford University is building a consolidated home for the Graduate School of Education that will accelerate the creation of innovative new pedagogies and learning modalities. William Rawn Associates and CAW Architects designed the approximately 150,000-sf project, which includes the construction of a four-story, 42,700-sf structure. The three-story, 97,547-sf Graduate Education Building is also undergoing a complete renovation. A landscaped courtyard spanning 13,500 sf will link the Barnum Center for Family and Community Partnerships to the new structures.

Housing the Stanford Teacher Education Program and the Stanford Accelerator for Learning, the highly collaborative development will include teaching facilities, conference spaces, breakout rooms, and faculty and administrative offices. A research testing suite will allow students and faculty to bring in individuals to participate in education-focused studies, supported by a secure data room where sensitive information can be stored and analyzed. Housing a maker space and the AI Tinkery, the complex will also feature “the classroom of the future” where video, audio, haptic, and other advanced technologies will enable research in classroom-based teaching practices. Multipurpose event spaces will include the Great Hall, Barnum Hub, Community Forum, and a meeting room on the top floor with an expansive view.

McCarthy Building Companies is the general contractor for the project, which broke ground in March of 2023. Completion is expected in fall of 2025.
