The University of Maryland Eastern Shore opened the Pharmacy and Health Professions Building in April of 2023 in Princess Anne, Md. Designed by Shepley Bulfinch and Ayers Saint Gross, the 120,000-sf facility features state-of-the-art teaching labs and simulation spaces for the School of Pharmacy, as well as accommodating courses in kinesiology, physician assistance, and physical therapy and rehabilitation. Specialized pharmacology labs will support translational research while fostering collaborative development with industry partners. The three-story structure also includes lecture halls, study spaces, academic offices, and a student resource center. An outdoor seating area with a range of settings for informal interaction is complemented by new pedestrian connections to established circulation routes.
Activating a new quad and social mall at the edge of campus, this vibrant learning destination represents the first phase of the 240,000-sf School of Pharmacy and Health Professions Complex. Shepley Bulfinch provided conceptual design services for the second phase, which will house the rest of the University’s allied health programs. The completed facility will enable a progressive pedagogy for interprofessional education that integrates simulation training across all disciplines.
