The University of California, Berkeley is constructing the Gateway, a visionary new home for the Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society. Designed by Weiss/Manfredi and Gensler, the $650 million building will strategically collocate open lab and office neighborhoods in a continuous flow to promote cross-fertilization of ideas and insights. The 367,270-sf interdisciplinary structure will feature interconnected work and meeting spaces where over 1,300 faculty, students, researchers, and staff will leverage the power of computing and data science to improve human health, social justice, and environmental sustainability. With the lower level providing a vibrant setting for knowledge exchange and interaction, the five-story facility will also include a two-story lecture hall, active learning classrooms, auditoriums, seminar rooms, engineering labs for robotics and artificial intelligence, and a rooftop event space.

The highly flexible project will incorporate advanced infrastructure to accommodate changing programmatic requirements. Turner Construction began work on the Gateway in September of 2022 and occupancy is expected in 2026.
