Long Island University opened the $26 million College of Veterinary Medicine Learning Center in February of 2023 in Brookville, N.Y. Advancing innovation in veterinary and biomedical science, the 33,100-sf facility provides three 150-seat lecture halls, classrooms, clinical skills labs, seminar rooms, and laboratories for teaching, research, and diagnostic services. A simulation training venue for working with small animals offers examination rooms, surgical suites, and a medical imaging center. The technology-rich structure also includes anatomy and pathology labs, collaboration spaces, and a specialized loading dock capable of accommodating horses and other large animals.
Designed by SBLM Architects to complement the neoclassical architecture of the campus, the project was supported by $12 million in state funding to help establish Long Island as a biotechnology research corridor. As the only program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association in the New York metropolitan area, LIU’s College of Veterinary Medicine is one of four such schools in the Northeast, joining Cornell University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Tufts University.
