Clark University broke ground in April of 2022 on the Center for Media Arts, Computing, and Design in Worcester, Mass. Designed by Ayers Saint Gross as a hub for interdisciplinary innovation, the two-wing structure will house the Department of Computer Science, the Becker School of Design & Technology, and some programs within the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. The 70,000-sf building will feature a multifloor tiered classroom, a maker space, a gaming center, a multimedia gallery, and labs for programs in robotics, data science, and augmented and virtual reality. Open to the entire Clark community, this nexus of creativity will include collaboration spaces, labs, and instructional venues that can be used by scholars from all disciplines.
With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a newly landscaped quad, the four-story facility will leverage geothermal energy technologies to meet its primary heating and cooling needs. Shawmut Design and Construction is the general contractor for the project, which is targeting LEED Gold certification. Occupancy is slated for fall of 2023.
