AbbVie opened a 480,000-sf biomedical research center in South San Francisco in April of 2022. Offering state-of-the-art laboratories and collaborative workspaces, the leased facility will accelerate the discovery and commercialization of new cancer therapeutics. As the anchor tenant for the Gateway of Pacific’s first phase of construction, AbbVie occupies 11 contiguous floors in the 12-story structure. Designed by Flad Architects, the 509,000-sf building comprises two wings joined by a five-story atrium, with a welcoming entrance plaza sited atop two levels of underground parking. The project has attained LEED Platinum certification and incorporates photovoltaic arrays, a rainwater harvesting system, and highly efficient mechanical infrastructure.

BioMed Realty is the developer, owner, and manager of the 5.5-acre Gateway of Pacific development, which features a 50,000-sf freestanding amenity center with numerous conference and meeting rooms, a food hall, a restaurant, a café, a spa, and a fitness center.
