The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) opened the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre in December of 2022 in Inchinnan in the United Kingdom. Situated in the heart of the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland, the £88 million facility features sophisticated GMP environments where new pharmaceutical production methods can be proven at scale. Accommodating approximately 80 staff members, the world-class R&D hub enables industry, academic, healthcare, and regulatory partners to develop novel techniques for the creation of advanced medicines. Private companies can access the center to evaluate, test, and prototype processes using an array of Industry 4.0 technologies, including continuous, digital, and autonomous manufacturing. Users will benefit from enhanced efficiency, reduced cost of drug development, and greater compliance.
Funded in part by Scottish Enterprise and UK Research and Innovation, the £88 million development was created in collaboration with 23 organizations including the University of Strathclyde, GSK, AstraZeneca, and Siemens. BakerHicks provided architectural and engineering services for the structure with Interserve as general contractor. Construction began on the project in October of 2020.
