Published 8/30/2021

Howard University will begin construction in 2023 on the National Research Center for Health Disparities in Washington. Accelerating the discovery of new solutions for chronic illnesses, the 260,000-sf facility will provide sophisticated laboratory and office environments where academic investigators can engage in collaborative discovery with pharmaceutical companies and biomedical research organizations. The privately funded and developed project will be created in partnership with EDENS, Capstone Development, and Quadrangle Development Corporation. Utilizing a long-term ground lease strategy, Howard University will maintain fee-simple ownership of the property and will participate in its financial success. The lab and office building will be accompanied by two outdoor plazas, 40,000 sf of retail space, and 430 rental apartments targeted to house researchers, faculty, and graduate students.
