MilliporeSigma, a subsidiary of Merck, is planning to expand its existing campus in Buchs, Switzerland, with the construction of a $20 million laboratory for the company's reference materials business. Accommodating 40 employees, the three-story, 12,000-sf structure will provide analytical and R&D suites for the testing of pharmaceuticals, environmental materials, and food and beverage products. Designed to promote collaboration and enhance operational efficiencies, the flexible building will feature a laboratory area that can be adapted to meet future requirements, including increased site capacity. Occupancy is expected in early 2022.
MilliporeSigma also opened its M Lab™ Collaboration Center in Shanghai in July of 2020. The 108,000-sf biopharmaceutical innovation hub accommodates pilot scale and process development support labs, a solid dose formulation facility, a customized cell culture media facility, networking and demonstration venues, and areas for bioprocessing training courses. Additionally, the project features a BioReliance® End-to-End Solutions GMP manufacturing center offering contract development manufacturing organization services to customers in China and Asia-Pacific.
