The University of Windsor celebrated the opening of the CAD$30 million Essex Centre of Research (CORe) in June of 2019 in Windsor, Ontario. Designed by NORR and Hariri Pontarini Architects, the 46,000-sf facility was constructed as an addition to Essex Hall and provides collaborative wet and dry laboratories for the study of advanced materials, transitional health, and medical physics. Featuring a full-height atrium with integrated lounge areas, the three-story structure also offers classrooms, teaching labs, meeting rooms, and instrumentation suites for NMR, microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The project team included Amico Design Build and Colliers Project Leaders. Construction began on the facility in February of 2017 with completion in December of 2018. The sustainably designed building has attained LEED certification.
