Boston College will begin construction in fall of 2019 on the $150 million Integrated Science Building in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Designed by Payette, the five-story, 156,500-sf facility will house the school’s new engineering and computer science departments as well as accommodating the Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society. The structure will feature a continuous ribbon of collaboration spaces and offices wrapping the entirety of its perimeter, offering a nested series of interaction spaces which have an umbilical relationship with a high-tech core of maker spaces, teaching and research labs, classrooms, and workshops. The project will also house an auditorium, an entrepreneurship center, a digital innovation studio, a cleanroom, and a café with indoor and outdoor seating. Suffolk Construction Company is the general contractor for the building, which is expected to attain LEED Silver sustainable design certification.
