Toronto
The University of Toronto is designing a nine-story academic hub to support urban research, education, and engagement. Designed by architectsAlliance, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and ERA Architects, the 170,000-gsf multidisciplinary building will provide a permanent home for the School of Cities as well as accommodating programs in history, music, and cultural studies. Housing collaborative classrooms, study areas, and meeting rooms, the project will offer public spaces including an atrium, a 200-seat recital hall, a 400-seat auditorium, lounges, a café, and a museum. The facility will meet ASHRAE sustainability standards and is expected to use 40 percent less energy than a comparable conventional structure.
