The University of Cambridge broke ground in January of 2019 on a £300 million expansion of the Cavendish Laboratory in the United Kingdom. The project includes construction of the 355,000-sf Ray Dolby Centre to provide the department of physics with additional laboratories, cleanrooms, lecture halls, offices, and workshops. A basement level with advanced vibration and EMI mitigation technologies will accommodate sensitive instrumentation. The Shared Facilities Hub, a separate 50,000-sf structure, will offer collaboration spaces, meeting rooms, study areas, a library, and a café. The design team includes Jestico + Whiles, Jacobs, NBBJ, and BDP. Hoare Lea is the MEP engineer and Ramboll is the civil, structural, and vibrational engineer. The project manager is Currie & Brown and the cost manager is AECOM. The general contractor is Bouygues UK. BREEAM Excellent sustainable design certification will be sought for the facility, which is slated for completion in 2022.
