Simon Fraser University is constructing the Sustainable Energy and Environmental Engineering Program (SE3P) building in Surrey, British Columbia. Designed by Revery Architecture with Research Facilities Design as laboratory design consultant, the CAD$116 million fast-track project is being constructed with 330 precast concrete architectural components supplied by Surespan Structures. A five-story atrium with a collaborative staircase connects the two sides of the building, with one half providing laboratory and research space and the other offering classrooms, offices, and a 400-seat lecture hall. LEED Gold sustainable design certification will be sought for the 172,000-sf facility. Bird Construction broke ground on the project in September of 2016 and completion is expected by spring of 2019.
