AstraZeneca opened its 163,000-sf South San Francisco facility in May of 2018. Located in the Cove at Oyster Point, the project houses a total of 400 employees from four organizations: Acerta Pharma, MedImmune, Pearl Therapeutics, and Technology Innovation & Delivery Excellence (TIDE). Designed by HOK to promote collaboration and innovation, the open lab and office environments incorporate AstraZeneca’s iWork philosophy, an activity-based approach that embraces industry best practices. Windows into labs from public spaces put science on display, and employee wellness is prioritized with features including treadmill-equipped team rooms, adjustable desks, ergonomically dynamic chairs, a gym, and organic dining options. The sustainably designed facility was built by XL Construction and reflects the company’s commitment to minimizing the environmental footprint of products and processes. AstraZeneca is also constructing the $500 million Global R&D Centre and Corporate Headquarters on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in the United Kingdom.
