Rutgers University dedicated the $84 million Richard N. Weeks Hall of Engineering in October of 2018 in Piscataway, N.J. Designed by The S/L/A/M Collaborative, the four-story, 106,000-sf facility provides smart classrooms, two lecture halls, offices, conference rooms, and areas for study and informal interaction. Featuring sophisticated wet and dry research labs, a cleanroom, and high-bay space, the interdisciplinary building houses the New Jersey Advanced Manufacturing Institute (NJAMI) which includes a manufacturing pilot lab, a rapid prototyping lab, a microfabrication lab, and concept labs. The collaborative project also accommodates specialized labs for the study of intelligent transportation systems, urban and coastal water systems, geosystems, energy, sustainable infrastructure, urban informatics and critical infrastructure, and environmental process and molecular analysis. The sustainably designed structure has attained LEED Gold certification. Ground was broken on the project in May of 2016. The construction cost of the facility was $55.1 million.
