The University of Kentucky dedicated the $112 million Jacobs Science Building in October of 2016. Designed by Payette and JRA Architects, the flexible 240,000-sf facility features technology-enabled active learning (TEAL) classrooms, collaborative teaching labs, advanced instrumentation suites, lecture halls, and outdoor classrooms. The sustainably designed project was built by Messer Construction.
Construction is also under way on the $265 million Research Building 2 (RB2). Designed by HGA Architects and Engineers, the 306,000-sf facility will provide open labs with collocated computational and wet bench space to accommodate multidisciplinary biomedical research. The project team includes Jacobs Engineering Group and Affiliated Engineers with Champlin Architecture as executive architect and architect of record. Ground was broken on RB2 in October of 2015 with completion expected in summer of 2018.
