Department of Health Builds Consolidated Forensic Laboratory

The Department of Health is building the $218 million Consolidated Forensic Laboratory in Washington, D.C. The eight-story building includes two floors below grade and features a BSL-3 laboratory and a forensic biology research suite. The project team includes general contractor Whiting Turner, construction manager Jacobs Engineering, design architect HOK, and Vanderweil Engineers. WorkingBuildings is providing total building commissioning as well as threat analysis and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development. The 351,000-gsf (287,000-nsf) facility will house the DOH's Public Health Laboratory, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Washington Morgue, and the Metropolitan Police Department Forensics Laboratory. Occupancy is expected in spring of 2013.
