Allied Health

Collin College opened the Cary A. Israel Health Sciences Center in January of 2016. Located on the Central Park campus in McKinney, Texas, the 125,000-sf facility provides classrooms, offices, and laboratories for programs in nursing, surgical technology, emergency services, respiratory care, and sleep disorders therapy. Designed by PBK Architects and built by Pogue Construction, the three-story project features a large simulation training center with advanced patient simulators and a 150-seat lecture hall.

Bellevue College opened its $21.8 million Health Sciences Building in December of 2015 in Bellevue, Wash. Designed by LMN Architects and built by Bayley Construction, the 70,500-sf facility provides classrooms and teaching labs for programs in imaging and nursing, as well as academic and administrative offices. The Health Sciences Building features a five-room simulation training lab and two clinical skills labs with a total of 20 hospital beds.

Carleton University began construction in December of 2015 on a $52 million (USD$36.8 million) health sciences building in Ottawa. The seven-story, 120,000-sf facility will provide classrooms and open laboratories to support neuroscience and health sciences programs. The project will also include collaborative research space for the study of healthy aging and infectious diseases. Completion is expected in August of 2017.

Tusculum College is building the $30 million Meen Center for Science and Mathematics in Greenville, Tenn. Designed by John Fisher + Associates, the four-story, 100,000-sf facility will provide teaching and research labs, classrooms, and lecture halls for programs in biology, chemistry, computer science, nursing, mathematics, and environmental science. Rentenbach Constructors began work on the project in May of 2015 and completion is expected in September of 2016.

The University of Kansas Medical Center began construction in fall of 2015 on the $75 million Health Education Building in Kansas City. Serving as the primary teaching facility for the schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Professions, the 171,000-sf building will provide advanced simulation training suites and flexible, technology-rich learning spaces to support emerging healthcare pedagogies and interprofessional education programs.

South Louisiana Community College will break ground in early 2016 on a $17.1 million health and science facility in Lafayette. The three-story, 63,000-sf building will accommodate programs in nursing and allied health as well as providing space for STEM education (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The project will also house administrative offices, a 250-seat auditorium, a virtual hospital, computer labs, conference rooms, and wet and dry science teaching labs. Occupancy is expected in fall of 2016.

Saint Paul College broke ground in November of 2015 on the $19 million Health and Science Alliance Center in St. Paul, Minn. Designed by Oliver & Associates with Research Facilities Design (RFD) as laboratory design consultant, the 45,000-sf facility will provide two flexible classrooms for STEM and health science programs, four science labs, two simulation labs, three general classrooms, and three classrooms supporting industry partnerships. The project includes both new construction and renovated space.

Minnesota State University is constructing a $26 million clinical sciences building in Mankato. Designed to promote the collaborative delivery of team-based care, the 59,000-sf facility will consolidate programs in nursing and dental hygiene as well as speech, hearing, and rehabilitation services. The three-story building will provide classrooms, labs, offices, study areas, clinical space, observation rooms, and a model apartment. The general contractor for the project is Shaw-Lundquist. Completion is expected in late October of 2016.

Texas Southern University opened the Interdisciplinary Health Professions Practice and Simulation Complex in Houston in October of 2015. Providing classrooms and labs for the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, the technology-rich facility features the 20,000-sf Health Professions Simulation Center, which includes training suites for all major hospital functions including a pharmacy, a nursing unit, a clinical lab, a respiratory therapy room, and medical records department.

Northern Kentucky University began construction in October of 2015 on the $97 million Health Innovation Center in Highland Heights. Designed by CO Architects of Los Angeles and GBBN Architects of Cincinnati, the 95,500-sf interdisciplinary facility will provide the College of Health Professions with advanced classrooms, laboratories, and offices. The $8 million St. Elizabeth Healthcare Simulation Center will also be located in the building.

Rochester Institute of Technology opened the $15 million Clinical Health Sciences Center in October of 2015 in Henrietta, N.Y. The 45,000-sf facility provides technology-rich lecture rooms, simulation suites, and clinical research space for the College of Health Sciences and Technology. The two-story project also houses the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition, the Center for Applied Psychophysiology and Self-Regulation, and a primary care clinic operated by Rochester General Health System.

Montgomery County Community College broke ground in September of 2015 on the $32 million Health Sciences Center in Whitpain, Pa. The project includes 76,000 sf of new construction and a complete renovation of the existing physical education building. The completed 158,000-sf center will provide 14 classrooms, 10 seminar rooms, simulation labs, faculty offices, a dental hygiene clinic, and gymnasium facilities. Completion is expected in late 2016.

High Point University is building a new 65,000-sf facility to house the School of Health Sciences and the School of Pharmacy. Supporting a variety of pedagogical styles, the $88 million facility will provide biomedical research labs, simulation suites, a cadaver lab, and standardized client space for interprofessional education. The laboratory programming and design consultant for the project is Research Facilities Design (RFD) and the general contractor is Frank L. Blum Construction.

Seminole State College is planning to construct a $48 million health science building in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Designed by HuntonBrady Architects and HKS Architects, the seven-story, 200,000-sf facility will include commercial and retail space on the ground floor. The project team includes developer U.S. HealthRealty and construction manager Skanska USA. Occupancy is expected in fall of 2017.

Sacred Heart University broke ground in September of 2015 on the $45 million Center of Healthcare Education in Bridgeport, Conn.
