Sumitomo Metals Constructs Research Building
Sumitomo Metals began construction in June of 2010 on a new research building at its Corporate Research & Development Laboratories in Amagasaki City. The JPY 10 billion facility is slated for completion by May of 2012.
San Jacinto College Breaks Ground on Transportation Center
San Jacinto College broke ground on the 95,000-sf Transportation Center in June of 2010 in Pasadena, Calif. The $20 million facility will house the school’s automotive department and is expected to open in August of 2011. The building will provide 48 automotive bays for instruction in vehicle repair and maintenance. The project team includes Morris Architects and general contractor Durotech. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the facility.
Mercy Willard Breaks Ground on Replacement Hospital
Mercy Willard Hospital will break ground in July of 2010 on a $40.5 million replacement facility in Willard, Ohio. The two-story, 101,000-sf hospital will include private inpatient rooms, surgical suites, an emergency department, and outpatient facilities. Occupancy is expected in spring of 2012.
Wayne County Builds Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine
Wayne County will begin construction in July of 2010 on the $1.5 million Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine in Plymouth. The 21,000-sf facility will house wet labs, offices, and manufacturing space to support stem cell research and development for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. The center will be operated by Michigan Research Institute in Ann Arbor with Innovative BioTherapies as the anchor tenant. Completion is expected in late fall of 2010.
University of Toledo Partners with Ohio University on Center for Algal Engineering Research and Commercialization
The University of Toledo is partnering with Ohio State University to develop the Center for Algal Engineering Research and Commercialization in Toledo, Ohio. Located on the Scott Park Campus for Energy and Innovation, the algae biofuels R&D project is supported by $3 million in funding from the Ohio Third Frontier Wright Projects Program.
